Middle Eastern Food in West Bloomfield: What to Order at Royal Palace Grill

New to Middle Eastern food, or new to West Bloomfield? Here's a plain-English guide to the dishes on our menu, what they taste like, and what to order first.

If you've driven down Haggerty Rd in West Bloomfield looking for Middle Eastern food, you've probably passed us. Royal Palace Grill is a family-run Mediterranean restaurant and banquet hall at 6123 Haggerty Rd, and this is the guide we'd hand you across the counter if you asked, "What should I get?"

Start here: the three dishes that define the place

Every Middle Eastern restaurant has a handful of dishes that tell you whether the kitchen is any good. Ours are cooked over real charcoal, and the meat is 100% halal.

  • Shawarma — marinated chicken or beef stacked on a vertical spit, slow-roasted, and shaved off to order. Get it as a sandwich wrapped in pita with pickles and garlic sauce, or as a platter over rice.
  • Kafta kabob — seasoned ground beef pressed onto skewers and grilled over the coals until the edges char. It's the dish regulars order on repeat.
  • Hummus — chickpeas blended smooth with tahini, lemon and olive oil, made fresh every morning. Scoop it with warm pita and you'll understand why it anchors every table.

Can't decide? Order the Mixed Grill Platter

The Royal Palace Mixed Grill Platter ($24.99) is the sampler. You get kafta, beef tikka and shish tawook (marinated chicken skewers) over saffron rice with grilled tomato, onion and pita. It's our best seller because it answers the question this whole article is about: one plate, every grill item, and you'll know your favorite by the end of it.
